History was in the air as the NDDU women’s volleyball team took pride in their National appearance at the VolleyPrep Volleyball Championship Club, held in Kalibo, Aklan on April 18-22.

NCF Tiger, AB Camp Baguio, Fourth District Nueva Ecija, KMS Lady Vikings, Parañaque Lady Green Berets were among the sixteen (16) teams from all around the Philippines who competed. CRS Livingstones, PSM Ways, J Blazers, One Volleyball Aklan, Michael’s Volleyball Club, Toby’s Sport Bacolod, Tacloban Red Stallions, Chery Tiggo Thunderbolts are from Visayas, and to represent Mindanao, South Cotabato Dreamweavers , and the NDDU’s Pride – The Kingfishers.

In a gritty display of formidable guts and exemplary heroism, NDDU Volleybelles’ ball setting and unstoppable skills got them one win in a pool against one of the teams from Visayas, the PSM Ways. The VolleyPrep Volleyball Championship Club competition follows a round-robin format to determine the medalists in the event.

Ten NDDU outstanding volleyball players mentored by Mr. Alvin Francis Ambe are Sophia Kyla Aguas, Mariel Francisco, Excel Kate Lopez, Excel Kaye Lopez, Reina Mae Abong, Cherish Pae Rubia, Maria Carylle Dacut, Anjelene Calauod, Karylle Baclaan (incoming Grade 11 student), and Andrea Kristine Sendico, the NDDU Kingfishers’ Team Captain.

Even if it did not end in the victory that it had hoped for, the NDDU Kingfishers showed that they are also not willing to give an inch to their rivals. Fired with their ferocious determination, the athletes brought pride to the University and General Santos City.
